I Haven’t Written in Almost 2 Years. Clearly I’ve Been Too Busy To Blog.
First of all.
Yes. I know.
I have not written on this blog in 21 months.
Almost 2 years!
Life been lifing. I blinked and became a high school teacher (still wild to say out loud), still running a sock company, still trying to be a functional adult, and clearly not writing blogs.
But I said I was gonna come back when I had a story worth telling.
And Myrtle Beach?
Oh I got one.
Let’s Start With the Foolishness
I left straight from school Friday.
Like straight from school-school. Classroom. Children. Noise. Bells ringing. That school.
Drove to the airport. Parked in the most expensive lot I could find (don’t ask me why). Grabbed my bag and RAN to the gate like I was late for my own race.
Only to find out…
The flight was delayed.
Then came the real issue.
I fly non-rev.
Which means sometimes you get on… and sometimes you absolutely do not.
And Friday?
I absolutely did not.
The Myrtle Beach flight was full and I couldn’t get on. So instead of acting like a normal person, I booked a flight to Wilmington, North Carolina, rented a car, and drove an hour to Myrtle Beach.
Also let me be honest: I think I’ve gotten a little entitled flying non-rev 😭
Like I just assume I’m getting on the plane.
Clearly… I will be buying a confirmed seat next time.
Also… I Packed Like I Had Lost My Mind
Let’s discuss the packing.
I packed terribly.
I had:
• one outfit
• no swimsuit
• no water bottle for the race
• and TWO of the most disgusting gels known to mankind
That was it.
Meanwhile we’re at the beach.
A beach.
And I got one outfit like I’m on punishment.
The Real Reason I Came
When I finally made it to the condo, the ladies — Yvonne, Nancy, Daris, and Venita (“V”) — were there waiting.
They hugged me and said, “Awwww poor baby.”
And I needed that.
Because the truth is, I had been sick for two weeks with a horrible sinus infection. I hadn’t trained. I felt slow, tired, heavy, and honestly a little irritated.
But seeing them reminded me why I came.
Also — let me tell y’all this:
Yvonne forgot her running shoes.
Forgot. Her. Running. Shoes.
So she didn’t even run 😂
And honestly? That tracks.
But what mattered is this: all of us were dealing with life in different ways. And being together helps us process it better. Something about being with your people makes everything feel lighter.

Race Morning
We got up at 5am and headed to the start around 6. The race started right on time at 6:35.
And I already knew:
I was not racing this race.
I was surviving this race.
Big difference.
The Course (and My Lungs)
Miles 1–5 were one long stretch of road with restaurants and old-school putt-putt golf spots.
We passed a helicopter tour place advertising $29 rides.
$29???
Meanwhile I’m over here fighting for oxygen.
By mile 5 I felt winded and heavy. Not dramatic. Just facts.

Mile 6 Saved Me
Around mile 6 we saw the faster runners coming back the other way and I don’t know why but it gave me a little boost.
This is also when the scenery got real pretty — coastal homes, palm tree lined streets, just nice.
And somewhere in there I met another teacher who stayed with me the rest of the race.
We talked about school.
We laughed about the crazy stuff kids say.
And somehow I ended up coaching her to the finish.
Which felt very on brand for me.
The Finish (and Most Important Part)
The course was flat and honestly really nice.
About 5,000 runners were out there and let me tell you something:
The swag was GOOD.
We got:
• a beach towel
• a medal
• a shirt
• and FOOD.
FOOD!!!
Which was honestly my main motivation at that point.

That’s It. That’s the Story.
I didn’t PR.
I didn’t feel amazing.
I barely trained.
But I showed up and finished strong.
And sometimes that’s the whole win.
I highly recommend Myrtle Beach Half.
Great race. Great energy. Great swag.
And even better memories with my people.
