All runs don’t look the same.
All races won’t be the same.
Today at the #runtheatl 20K, a mother was close to the cut off time. 😫
I had a delicious cheese pizza last night and it was delightful.
It wasn’t what my body needed as fuel for this 20k (turned 13 miles)
The hills & humidity whooped my butt! 😣
I was weaving in and out of cones (that’s where I got extra miles)
I just wasn’t at my best today.
The most spectacular thing happened tho…
I ran with a guy 15 years my senior and he was injured. Needs back surgery and is afraid he’ll never run again.
I collected his story, offered encouragement and he in turned helped me pace a bit faster than I would have.
This bond with another human for over an hour was what we both needed.
In a world where everyone looks at their phones all day, today we talked and encouraged one another.
It was priceless.
Finally, as I was worried about the cut off time, the bike guy who rides the course rides beside me and offers me additional encouragement. 😌
He said, “You know the first shall me last & the last shall be first!”
Trying to help me feel better from literally being the last two runners on the course.
I was honored.
Im not one bit embarrassed or ashamed I came in last (2nd to last based on the time chip)
I am grateful for the story I collected today and for my ability to become a stronger & better runner.
Finishing last leaves a WHOLE lotta room to grow 😅😂
Way to continue and finish the race. You did way better than some (Points at self 😉)
Injury does not count m’am!
